I Love to See the Temple

Saturday was our ward temple trip. It's so great...once a quarter the Elders Quorum organizes babysitting at the stake center next to the temple and then provides lunch after the session. This week Micah and I got to pay our dues and help with babysitting which is always an adventure. It takes about 45 minutes to get over there and about 1 1/2 hours to get home from the Oakland Temple on Saturdays. California traffic is crazy thanks to the toll bridges. When we first moved here the toll on the Bay Bridge was $2. Now it is $4. Before leaving we peaked into the visitors center and said hi to Sister Brittany Greer from Gilbert, AZ.

We snapped a few family pictures since I realized we don't have any in front of the temple!

Phi Kappa Phi

Friday Micah was inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. We are not sure exactly what the criteria is to be invited, but it is a national society honoring scholastic achievement and learning. The initiation ceremony was held at a beautiful chapel on the Stockton Campus of University of the Pacific. Micah and Derid Ure were the only two inductees from the dental school.

The boys and I tagged along for the trip. We lasted about 2 minutes into the ceremony and then decided it was best to wait outside. Merik was quite disappointed because Micah had taught him to yell "Wahoo" when he walked across the stage. I think the cute little old man in his academic robes presenting the medals would have had a heart attack if Merik yelled in that dignified chapel among all the scholars. He did cheer from the courtyard whenever we heard applause which was quite cute!

We had fun exploring the beautiful gardens on campus. Everything was very green and all the flowers were blooming. It was so hot...are we really ready for a Dallas summer?!

I told Merik I wouldn't take his picture unless he was looking at the camera...this is what I got!

Ft. Miley

Today we visited Fort Miley with Kate and Kiera. It was a beautiful place on a beautiful day with some beautiful kids!

Yum

Jaden thoroughly enjoys feeding himself...he even licked the plate clean!

I wish I was a dog!

While in Arizona visiting my family a few weeks ago Merik decided he was the family pet.
Oh how fun to be a kid!

Explore

Tuesday morning Micah didn't have a patient so he went with us to the Exploratorium. This is a hands on science museum right next to the beautiful Palace of Fine Art in the Marina. The exhibits were still a little bit over Merik's head but we had a great time exploring! Does it look like we're having fun!

Remembered Light

Saturday we visited the Remembered Light exhibit hosted by the Presidio Interfaith Counsel. It is an amazing display of art created around shards of stained glass gathered by a WWII army chaplin during his travels through Europe during the war. He collected shards of glass from damaged or destroyed churches and cathedrals and kept them in a cardboard box for years. Then in 1999 after telling friends about this collection, he was put in contact with a French stained glass artist who organized this project to create works of art. Each display includes the chaplin's story of the shards used in that piece. Here is a link to learn and see more! http://www.interfaith-presidio.org/mcdonald/index.htm
